In 2012, a crucial observation was made: several B/ERGs were having Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) events on the same date & time. HHM goes for 30-days thus, with a little communication and collaboration, we could establish a full calendar of events and avoid stepping on each other’s toes. The first wave of Leaders came from 12 B/ERGs. We quickly realized that there were a few more pressing areas for collaboration. First, we needed a unified voice that would market our events thus, we created a monthly newsletter that started with ~200 professionals and it has organically grown to ~1,900 local professionals. Second, there was strong desire to meet quarterly and create high-level interactions with Executives and local Leaders. Third, we wanted a repository of B/ERG best practices so that we can help others increase employee engagement and help neophyte affinity groups launch in the right direction. The opportunities for collaboration have steadily increased. To this date, we have helped with the establishment of 4 B/ERGs and we have influence the promotion of 11 of our HiPo Members (High Potential). Our journey continues….
